I don’t like the product placement (and neither does AdAge apparently), and I don’t ever imagine going there especially after the stingingly bad reviews the Rocco’s has gotten. (I’d much rather opt for Mario Batali’s Lupa or Babbo two great restaurants)
What I find interesting is how a guy can open a restaurant and (at least to this point) do such a thorough job of alienating both the staff and diners. Rcco seems very interested in building up his own celebrity but, not very interested in building a successful restaurant. The question is how long his celebrity will last when it’s based around such failure.
From the New York Post on 08/12:
Mamma Mia! Rocco DiSpirito's new Italian restaurant features flies, greasy spoons and dirty towels in addition to its famed meatballs, according to a city Health Department inspection.
A woman who answered the telephone at Rocco's last night said manager Laurent Saillard - who was handed the violation - was not available, but she took a message from The Post seeking comment.
It got me to thinking I’m going to work up a pitch for another reality show. It’s going to be called The Ad Agency, or The Design Studio or maybe The Production Department it seems no matter where I’ve worked there’s never been any shortage of drama.
